The Life of Prince Harry
Prince Henry Charles Albert David was born into the Royal Family of Great Britain on September 15, 1984 in the Lindo Wing of St. Mary Hospital located in Paddington, London. His mother was the late Princess Diana of Wales and his father is Prince Charles of Wales. Prince Harry was the couple’s second child. Their older son is Prince William. Princess Diana and Prince Charles divorced in 1966.
Prince Harry was educated in the schools of the United Kingdom. He spent some time in Australia and Lesotho. He underwent officer training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Prince Harry was commissioned as a Cornel (Second Lieutenant) into the Blues and Royals. He completed his training as a troop leader in 2007-2008. Prince Harry served for over ten weeks in Helmand, Afghanistan, but was pulled out after the Australian magazine revealed his presence. He returned to Afghanistan for a twenty-week deployment in 2012-2013 with the Army Air Corps. Prince Harry left the army in June 2015.
He married American actress Meghan Markle on May 19, 2018. Hours before the wedding Queen Elizabeth II conferred on him the title of the Duke of Sussex.
Prince Harry became a patron of several humanitarian organizations, three of which were: The London Marathon Charitable Trust, Walking With The Wounded, and Invictus Games. Invictus Games is a Paralympic-style sporting event for injured servicemen and women, which was held on September 10-14 2014. He enjoyed playing many sports including competitive polo, skiing, and motocross.
Prince Harry acknowledged that he sought counseling after two years of “total chaos” while struggling to come to terms with the death of his mother. He said that after losing his mother at the age of twelve he shut down his emotions regarding her death for twenty years. Prince Harry was having panic attacks and bouts with depression. He had a few conversations about his mental illness on a podcast. “And actually all of a sudden, all of this grief that I have and never processed came to the for front and I was, like, there is actually a lot of stuff here that I needed to deal with.” The Windsor royal family, though, is well known for upholding a long-standing motto: “Never explain Never complain,” he said. “The taboo of speaking about such important issues must end, and that the idea that successful, strong people don’t suffer their own emotional difficulties is false.”
In March of 2020 Prince Harry and Princess Meghan stepped away from royal duties. Buckingham Palace announced late in February of 2021 that the couple had finalized their separation from the royal family and will no longer be working members of British monarchy. Harry and Meghan were and are experiencing mental health challenges because of past interactions with the royal family and the present state of affairs as it pertains to the royal family.
